Betrayer is an atmospheric horror
Stealth Adventure Fantasy first person shooter, with gameplay
elements of detective stories.
Strikingly, Betrayer is a game without
a soundtrack.
The games atmosphere is created by the
natural soundscape (forest and wind sounds), the story of which is
told only with textbox quests and by the FPS battles with muskets,
bows and tomahawks, and others during the British colonial era used
weapons.
My recommendation at this point, play
Betrayer with headphones on to fully immerse yourself in the
atmosphere.
Graphically Betrayer also stands out
with its black-and-white style which is brought into the foreground
by red-colored elements and items.
The horror of the game does not consist
of Jump Scares, it is based on the sinister and dark story, quests
and characters in the game and their personal stories. Betrayer
really goes there where it might be extremely uncomfortable for some,
since in some cases the depths of human depravity and really violent
crimes (and their consequences) are treated here.
Unfortunately Betrayer got only a hold
of me after 1-2 hours of playtime, thats when the game starts
rolling. That is not really a disadvantage, but I can understand if
some place the game after 1 hour playing time aside. Furthermore, all
of the quests are text based, no part of the game is Voice Acted, if
one disregards the cry sounds of the monsters.
Something I personally do not like to
call negative, but the game mechanics of exploring the respective
maps of the game, it can happen that if you have the lyrics and hints
in the game not fully understood, take a lot of time with you only
walking around as to find evidence and Quest items. This can be
really time consuming and annoying for some.
Conclusion:
If you have a problem with reading lots
of text boxes and a missing musical soundscape of a video game, you
may not become really happy with Betrayer.
But for those who seek a different kind
of FPS horror game, can find in Betrayer an almost 15 hours long and
good horror fantasy shooter.
